Nashville, TN. (Monday, August 7, 2023)- Irish driver James Roe and the Music City harmonized well as Roe and his No. 29 Topcon Andretti Autosport machine finished fourth in the Firestone Music City Grand Prix – his best finish in the INDY NXT™ by Firestone series and his third top-five finish of the season.

After a strong Practice 1 and a limited Practice 2, a qualifying rain out left the No. 29 coming off the grid eighth based on championship points. The 24-year-old leveraged experience and race craft to navigate  multiple incidents on the challenging street course. Having executed a number of strategic overtakes throughout the race, Roe added a final one on the last corner of the last lap to secure fourth position.

“It was a good race,” Roe said. “Obviously, qualifying was on championship points which we weren’t super pleased of as a team because we had mega pace. We were P2 in Practice 1 and had a mechanical in Practice 2 so we didn’t get to show anything there, but we knew we had very quick cars. We started 8th and stayed out of trouble, made some moves and finished fourth.”

Roe’s performance launched him from eighth to seventh in the championship standings  for his partners Topcon, CES Power, Strong Roots, Ring Power Corporation, The Ireland Funds, and GAAPP. With 219 points, he now sits just six points out of sixth place.

“It was a massive points day for the team with moving to seventh in the championship points and we have five more rounds to go,” Roe said.

Roe and the INDY NXT series will be back in action Friday, August 11 at the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway to take on the 2.4-mile road course.

Newton, IA. (Monday, July 24, 2023)- The Iowa oval saw a season best top four start for James Roe and his No. 29 Topcon Andretti Autosport team. Roe finished ninth, his sixth top ten finish of the season as all four Andretti Autosport drivers finished in the top ten for the first time this year.

A rain shower on race day shifted the race from morning to evening which brought cooler track temperatures for the 7:30 p.m re-scheduled start.

After a stellar qualifying effort earning a fourth-place grid position,. the No. 29 Topcon machine got shuffled in traffic during a chaotic start..

“I got swamped at the start on the inside lane and fell back,an expensive lesson” Roe said. “Then all race battled a little bit with balance. We did what we could with the tools we have in the car, but we were just hanging on there. I’m glad to bring the car back in one piece – first and foremost.”

While managing balance, Roe avoided racing incidents around “The World’s Fastest Short Track” and drove a clean car to the checkered flag for valuable championship points.

“We saw some stuff on the telemetry already that indicated some of the balance issues,” Roe said. “We just need to figure out why and go get them next time.”

Just six points behind his nearest competitor, Roe holds eighth place in the INDY NXT™ by Firestone standings for his partners Topcon, CES Power, Strong Roots, Ring Power Corporation, The Ireland Funds, and GAAPP.  The Irish driver and his counterparts are back in action in downtown Nashville when INDY NXT visits the Music City onAugust 6th.

Lexington, OH. (Monday, July 3, 2023)-  An interrupted qualifying session turned into a tough starting position for James Roe at Mid-Ohio – as the qualifying cadence led the No. 29 machine to miss the opportunity for a final flying lap on a rapidly improving surface and fall from the top 5 to 14th. Though starting 14th, Roe was able to gain two positions and finish 12th in his No. 29 Topcon Andretti Autosport entry while also holding his position in the championship standings.

“Obviously not the race results that we wanted from today,” Roe said. “We still moved up a bit from where we started, but this traffic is notoriously hard to pass around here.”

Sunday’s conditions offered a challenge for the field as a wet surface and a drizzle of rain throughout the race made grip harder to come by around an already tight and technical road course. Those conditions and two cautions slowed the pace and suppressed passing opportunities throughout the 35-lap race.

“We were able to make up some ground towards the end, but we got forced wide and fell back,” Roe said. “So right now I think we just got to put our heads down and keep going forward.”

Roe remains in eighth place in the INDY NXT™ by Firestone standings with 165 points for his partners Topcon, CES Power, Strong Roots, Ring Power Corporation, The Ireland Funds, and GAAPP.

The 24-year-old and his No. 29 Topcon machine will be back in action on Sunday, July 22nd when the INDY NXT series heads to Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.

Elkhart Lake, WI. (Monday, June 19, 2023)– Irish racing star James Roe continued to show strong race pace and smart composure as he turned a 10th place start for his No. 29 Topcon Andretti Autosport team into a fifth place result at Road America..

The 20-lap race marked Roe’s fifth straight top-ten finish and his second top-five finish of the season for his partners Topcon, CES Power, Strong Roots, Ring Power Corporation, The Ireland Funds, and GAAPP.

Roe stayed poised as other drivers struggled to find grip around the 14-turn, four-mile road circuit – with Roe executing a skilledpass on then points-leader Christian Rasmussen on lap six to capture sixth place. After the field bunched up due to a caution on lap ten, Roe navigated the restart beautifully to hold sixth position and eventually move up to fifth.

“I think we had a really solid drive. We moved forward five spots from P10 to P5 with a number of fastest laps throughout the race. We ran out of push to pass towards the end, so I couldn’t challenge for fourth, but I think it just shows the pace we have in these Andretti cars – we all move forward in every race. Just need a little luck in qualifying and we’re away.”

The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the most consistent drivers of the year. With the result at Road America, he improves to eighth in the INDY NXT™ by Firestone standings with 147 championship points – only 11 points out of fifth place.

Roe and his No. 29 Topcon machine will be back in action on Sunday, July 2nd when the INDY NXT series heads to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

Elkhart Lake, WI. (Wednesday, June 13, 2023)– Road America holds great promise for Ireland’s James Roe in an INDY NXT™ by Firestone championship season that has recorded a different winner in each of the first five races.

One of the most consistent drivers in the field, Roe added two more top-ten finishes around the streets of Detroit, highlighted by a sixth place finish in race two. The 24-year-old sits ninth in the championship standing with 117 points – with just 6 points separating him from teammate Louis Foster in 6th place.

Roe’s experience at the circuit will benefit his No. 29 Topcon Andretti Autosport team as they tackle the historic four-mile, 14-turn road course. In 2019, Roe notched a Road America win in the U.S. Formula 3 championship and followed up in 2022 with a solid drive to a seventh place finish in the INDY NXT event. .

“I am really looking forward to this weekend’s race at Road America,” Roe said. “The track has just been repaved so it will be interesting to see how that shapes up for everyone. Our race pace has been very strong over the past few weeks so the plan is to capitalize on that with the No. 29 crew.”

Andretti Autosport has recorded 17 INDY NXT podium finishes at Road America since the track returned to the schedule in 2016. Roe looks to add to that number and grow his championship points cache for his partners Topcon, CES Power, Strong Roots, Ring Power Corporation, The Ireland Funds, and GAAPP.
