INDIANAPOLIS (October 9, 2023) – Andretti Global announced today that James Roe will return to the Andretti INDY NXT team to pilot the No. 29 TopCon Dallara for the 2024 INDY NXT by Firestone season. Roe is the first to be confirmed to the team’s 2024 INDY NXT driver lineup.

After a partial 2022 INDY NXT season that saw the sole Irish driver in the field score four top-10 finishes in 11 starts, Roe made his full season debut in the development series in 2023 with the Andretti INDY NXT team. The 14-race 2023 season saw Roe score his first INDY NXT podium on the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as well as four top-five and 10 top-10 finishes.

Hailing from Ireland with a dream of racing in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and the Indianapolis 500, Roe began his American racing journey in 2018 in the F2000 Championship Series before moving into the FIA Formula Regional Americas Championship and Indy Pro 2000 Championship.

Roe will kick off his 2024 INDY NXT campaign at the Chris Griffis Memorial Test October 20 on the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

J-F THORMANN, PRESIDENT, ANDRETTI GLOBAL

We’re happy to welcome James back to our INDY NXT team – it’s a great feeling to kick off the 2024 season with a familiar face back in the mix. James showed consistency and pace throughout last season, and his experience in this series is going to be an asset for the whole Andretti INDY NXT team. We’re excited to see him build on the success he saw throughout 2023, and we’re hopeful he can make it to the top step of the podium this season.”

JAMES ROE, DRIVER, ANDRETTI INDY NXT

I’m extremely happy to be staying with Andretti Global for 2024. The Andretti INDY NXT team feels like family to both our partners and myself. We’ve already enjoyed some fantastic moments together, and I’m sure we are going to create many more. Thank you to all involved for placing their trust in me and I’m looking forward to the 2024 season.

Salinas, Calif. (Sunday, September 10, 2023)- Irishman James Roe’s first full season in the INDY NXT™ by Firestone championship concluded this weekend with a doubleheader at historic WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.  His consistency and craft at the helm of the No. 29 Topcon Andretti Autosport machine earned his team 335 points and a seventh-place finish in the final championship standings. .

In Race 1 of the weekend, Roe used his skill and experience to run as high as seventh – rising eight places from a 15th position start. .  Roe ultimately finished the day ninth, notching his tenth top-ten finish across 14 races this season.

“We didn’t qualify well today, but we were able to work our way forward to P7. At the end, we had a run on Franzoni into Turn 6 but got into aero-wash behind him and went straight off on the exit of Turn 6 falling back to ninth. It was disappointing on my end. I made a mistake there but other than that I think we did what we could going from 15th to seventh. We had a quick car and were picking them off driving to pace.”

After starting ninth in Race 2, the 24-year-old had gained two positions and was running a strong seventh when a spin sent him off track and to the rear of the field leading to a 15th place result.

“It was a frustrating race,” Roe said. “We got bumped into at the start and fell back, then worked our way back up. At the halfway point, around Turn 10, I understeered off and then came back on. That was on me. We just hung in there. I’m happy to finish P7 in points, it’s a pretty solid result with a few things that happened throughout the year. We’re straight to work on plans for next year.”

The Irish driver recorded a successful first full season of INDY NXT – highlighted by a podium finish at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speed – with the support of dedicated partners Topcon, CES Power, Strong Roots, Ring Power Corporation, The Ireland Funds, and GAAPP.

Having just closed out his 2023 campaign, Roe is already planning toward 2024 – with announcements on his trajectory coming soon.

Salinas, Calif. (Wednesday, September 6, 2023)- James Roe has brought speed and consistency to permanent road courses this season – notching five top-10 finishes, three top-five finishes, and his first INDY NXT™ by Firestone podium on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in August. The 24-year-old looks to add two more strong road course finishes to his No. 29 Topcon team’s tally as the season comes to a close with a doubleheader at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

This weekend marks Roe’s first start at the iconic 2.24-mile, 11-turn, Laguna Seca road course which boasts 300 feet of elevation changes, highlighted by the world-famous “Corkscrew” chicane.

For Race 1 of the weekend, Roe and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, co-creator of Disney’s “Phineas and Ferb,” have announced a unique collaboration with Roe donning a helmet that celebrates the acclaimed animated comedy series. After the event at Laguna Seca, Roe and Marsh will be auctioning off the race-worn helmet celebrating the Emmy Award winning program to benefit A Walk On Water, a charity organization that provides life-changing surf therapy to children with unique needs and their families.

“It’s hard to believe that the season finale is here already – this year has flown by,” Roe said. “Like Portland, Laguna is another new track for me, so it’ll be a great experience to get out there and race on it. I’ve done pretty well on other road courses this season, so let’s end these last two races on a good note!”

The Irish driver currently boasts 298 championship points for his partners Topcon, CES Power, Strong Roots, Ring Power Corporation, The Ireland Funds, and GAAPP. Roe looks to close out the season with two strong, points-paying finishes under the California sun. .

Portland, Ore. (Monday, September 4, 2023)- The INDY NXT™ by Firestone Grand Prix of Portland started with a bang as a chaotic chain-reaction collision in turn one of lap one collected many strong cars – including the No. 29 Topcon machine of James Roe. . Though contact from behind spun his car, Roe was able to get restarted and rejoin the remaining field.

Having started 12th, the 24-year old battled throughout the 35 lap race to improve four positions and finish eight – all while managing rear diffuser damage from the lap one contact.

“I got taken out at the start of the race after I got hit from behind, so I fell straight to the back of the pack,” Roe said. “Eventually we were able to work our way up to P8, so I’m glad that I was able to keep going even with some rear diffuser damage. So, from here let’s move forward to Laguna and finish out these last two races.”

Roe’s finish marked his ninth top-ten of the season. With the result, Roe has secured 298 points for his partners Topcon, CES Power, Strong Roots, Ring Power Corporation, The Ireland Funds, and GAAPP. The Irish driver sits tied sixth in the championship standings.

The INDY NXT by Firestone series heads to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca to close the season with a  doubleheader – the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey Races 1 and 2 on Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10 respectively.

Madison, IL. (Sunday, August 27, 2023)-  After a long rain delay and challenging practice conditions, a promising start turned into a heartbreaking finish for James Roe in Saturday’s INDY NXT™ by Firestone Outfront Showdown.

Due to stormy conditions all day, the race was delayed into the evening with the grid set by championship points. At the green flag under the lights, Roe surged ahead to gain positions, settling into  fourth in his No. 29 Topcon Andretti Autosport machine. After holding that position for much of the race, the car started to experience tire issues. Despite dropping through the field to attempt to save tires, Roe made contact with the SAFER Barrier in Turn 2 on Lap 56 – ultimately retiring the No. 29.

“It’s not the way we wanted to end the night,” Roe said. “We had a really good start, and we were running forward for the majority of the race. Then, suddenly, we just started losing the right rear, and I couldn’t lean on the car at all. Eventually, it caught us out. We will focus forward and regroup for the next race in Portland.”

The Irish driver remains in seventh place in the championship with 274 points for his partners Topcon, CES Power, Strong Roots, Ring Power Corporation, The Ireland Funds, and GAAPP.

One of the most consistent drivers in the series with eight top-ten finishes and four top-five finishes, Roe looks to charge back next weekend at the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Portland on Sunday, Sept. 3 at Portland International Raceway.

Indianapolis, Ind. (Sunday, August 13, 2023)– A full day of racing on Friday ended in a champagne shower for James Roe as he piloted his No. 29 Topcon machine to a front row start and a podium finish at the Racing Capital of the World.

Roe attacked the world renowned 2.4-mile, 14-turn road course with pace and precision – qualifying second behind Andretti Autosport teammate Hunter McElrea. After the green flag, Roe settled into  third, awaiting his opportunity to strike.  After a late-race incident between the leaders, Roe took second and immediately commenced hunting down McElrea. A thrilling chase ensued as  Roe closed a multi-second gap, positioning himself to challenge for the lead on the final lap – ultimately crossing the finish line less than half a second behind his teammate.

“I’m really happy with how we did today and for Hunter, if there’s anyone to win, it’s him,” Roe said. “I did try to use the push-to-pass there at the end, but I didn’t have the tire to match the amount of push-to-pass that I had. But we still walked away with a podium here today.”

On the day Roe collected his best qualifying result and first podium in the INDY NXT™ by Firestone series. The result marks his second consecutive top-five finish and fourth top-five finish of the season for his partners Topcon, CES Power, Strong Roots, Ring Power Corporation, The Ireland Funds, and GAAPP.

“We’ve had a nice run recently since we were also super fast in Nashville and qualified on the second row,” Roe said. “This team is awesome, we just have to keep this momentum going.”

With 259 points and a seventh place standing, Roe continues to set his sights on climbing the championship ranks – with just one point separating him from sixth place and fifth place just a ten point gap.

Roe and his No. 29 Topcon ride will be back in action at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois on Saturday, August 26.
