DUBLIN (Thursday, May 2, 2024) – Tourism Ireland and Irish INDY NXT™ by Firestone driver James Roe, who hails from Naas, Co. Kildare, have teamed up to engage racing enthusiasts, a group that is demonstrating a greater interest in international travel.

The collaboration includes social media videos, which will run on Facebook and Instagram, as part of Tourism Ireland’s iconic ‘Fill your heart with Ireland’ campaign.  This content features Dublin and Kildare and highlights some of Roe’s favourite things in Ireland including adventure activities, the superb food and drink offerings, and the country’s rich heritage.

“It’s an honor to partner with Tourism Ireland to promote my home – the island of Ireland – on the world stage. Through every step of my motorsport journey, I’ve been incredibly proud to display the tricolour on my race kit and car livery, so to have the opportunity to highlight what Ireland has to offer in an even deeper way in collaboration with Tourism Ireland is a true privilege,” said Roe.

In addition to amplifying the content across his social channels, Roe will prominently display Ireland.com branding on his racing helmet throughout the 2024 racing season.

Birmingham, Ala. (Monday, April 29, 2024) –  Having waited nearly two months since the season opener, Irish driver James Roe wasted no time in showing speed at Barber Motorsports Park for the second race of the 2024 INDY NXT™ by Firestone season. Strong from the first lap of practice to the last lap of the Grand Prix of Alabama, Roe turned pace and poise into a champagne shower as he piloted his No. 29 Topcon Dallara to a podium finish.

Roe came out hot in practice on Friday, finishing the session in P2, and continued to improve his lap times as he closed Saturday’s practice in fifth position. He and his No. 29 team took that momentum into qualifying, as Roe posted the second fastest lap in group 2 – locking in a third place grid position for Sunday’s race on the Alabama roller coaster.

“The car has been great since the minute we rolled off the trucks, just super, super strong, so now it’s just a matter of putting together a clean first lap and bringing it home,” noted Roe just after his qualifying effort.

On race day, Roe kept his foot to the gas of his No. 29 Topcon machine, drawing on his experience at the picturesque road course to unwaveringly maintain third position from green flag to checkered flag.

“It was a great race for us today,” Roe said. “Obviously a podium is always good in this Championship with how competitive it is. The No. 29 Topcon team did an awesome job and helped make today a good race and something I’m really happy about. On to the next!”

The top Andretti INDY NXT finisher, Roe’s strong drive earned 35 championship points for his team and his partners in Topcon, Ring Power Corporation, CES Power, Strong Roots, Trintech, Tourism Ireland, and The Ireland Funds.

The INDY NXT by Firestone season rolls on to Indianapolis Motors Speedway – where Roe will proudly don a helmet paying homage to the University of Notre Dame’s iconic gold football helmets – for a doubleheader weekend on May 10 (6:10 PM ET) and May 11 (1:00 PM ET).

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Thursday, April 25, 2024) – Nearly two months after the opening race of the INDY NXT™ by Firestone season on the streets of St. Petersburg, Irish driver James Roe is poised to get his season reignited at Barber Motorsports Park for round two of the INDY NXT by Firestone championship chase.

After a mechanical issue impacted their initial outing of the season at St. Pete, Roe and his team look to rebound with the pace and precision they found at the 2023 Grand Prix of Alabama which saw Roe’s No. 29 Topcon Dallara notch a 5th place finish.

Well rested and well prepared, Roe is ready to ride the Alabama rollercoaster – taking on the 2.3-mile permanent road course’s 17 flowing turns and 80 feet of elevation. With two full course cautions and a red flag in 2023, this year’s event is sure to offer action and excitement on a course that challenges engineers and driver’s alike.

“Barber is, without a doubt, one of the quickest tracks that we race on. It’s a super physical track with limited passing opportunities,” noted Roe, “so it’s important that we bring our best to the qualifying session to be able to start the race near the front of the grid. We finished in the top five last year, so I’m hoping we can bring home some good results again.”

Bringing a close to his INDY NXT “Spring Break” which included a visit to Topcon’s Tokyo headquarters and an appearance at the University of Notre Dame’s Blue-Gold Game, Roe is ready to be back in his racing seat proudly representing partners Topcon, Ring Power Corporation, CES Power, Strong Roots, Trintech, Tourism Ireland, and The Ireland Funds as he chases a podium in Alabama.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Monday, March 11, 2024) – For a second year, the luck of the Irish eluded James Roe in the opening race of the INDY NXT™ by Firestone championship on the Streets of St. Petersburg as a red flagged qualifying session and mechanical issues contributed to a 16th place finish for the No. 29 Topcon Dallara of Andretti Global.

New qualifying procedures implemented for the 2024 INDY NXT by Firestone season saw Roe and his Andretti Global teammates slotted into Group 2 for qualifying – a session which was abrupted by two red flags. Those untimely stoppages ultimately prevented Roe and his No. 29 machine from notching a proper flying lap resulting in a 14th place grid position.

“It was a pretty straightforward session in qualifying with an abrupt ending,” noted the Irish driver. “We were up by quite a few tenths, then the first red came out and that was it – qualifying was over. There was no advancement after that, which is unfortunate because we were on a lap that would have put us up there in position when the red came out.”

Leaning on his street course experience, Roe started Sunday’s Grand Prix of St. Petersburg strong, quickly gaining three positions once the green flag flew. With another position secured, Roe was on the hunt through the course’s 1.8 miles of “concrete canyons” when mechanical issues forced the No. 29 Topcon car to the pit lane from P10 where the crew worked diligently to get Roe back to racing.

“We made a good start today and made up about four or five positions and then we unfortunately had a mechanical issue that caused the engine to lose all power. The No. 29 crew was able to make repairs and get me back out on the track, but it still set us back quite a bit at five laps down. That’s how racing can go, and we still got some points on the board today. We’ll regroup and come back better next time. It’s a long season.”

After returning five laps down, Roe battled back to a hard-earned 16th place at the checkers, securing 14 championship points for the No. 29 team and partners Topcon, Ring Power Corporation, CES Power, Strong Roots, Trintech, Tourism Ireland, and The Ireland Funds.

Roe returns to action on April 28 at 11:05 a.m. ET for the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Thursday, March 7, 2024) – Following an off-season of focused preparation, Irish driver James Roe is poised to chase a championship in his sophomore season at Andretti Global piloting the No. 29 Topcon Dallara in the INDY NXT™ by Firestone series.

Although inclement weather impacted some of official off-season testing, Roe and the No. 29 team made the most of their on-track opportunities – drawing on and building from the experiences of the 2023 INDY NXT by Firestone season which saw Roe finish 7th in the championship standings.

“Even with limited track time, testing was extremely productive for us,” said the driver. “We ran different set-ups, we pushed each other and the car, and we ultimately showed great pace – running at the front throughout.”

Roe is poised to put that preparation to the test this weekend as the season kicks off in the Sunshine State on the Streets of St. Petersburg – a 1.8-mile, 14-turn street circuit incorporating downtown thoroughfares and a section of runway of Albert Whitted Airport. With five full course yellows during the 2023 event, the track promises to be a worthy first test for Roe and his counterparts.

“I can’t wait to get to St. Pete and showcase all the work that’s been put in this off-season. We’re ready to get back on track and utilize what we’ve been training for.”

The 25-year-old driver looks to start his season on the podium as he proudly represents partners Topcon, Ring Power Corporation, CES Power, Strong Roots, Trintech, Tourism Ireland, and The Ireland Funds across his livery, kit, and helmet.

“We’re here to fight up front and get points on the board. Let’s get this Championship going!”

ln 2023 one of Ireland’s most talented race car drivers was selected to compete in the Indy NXT by Firestone Series, the final step on the road to IndyCar. Roe, who started racing when he was only fifteen, considers himself late to the sport. However, he seems to have made up for lost time.

After breaking UK and Irish records whilst topping podiums, Roe moved to the US. In 2021’s IndyPole 2000 Championships he was awarded the Pole Award, had the most overtakes in a season, and was a race winner.

And last year, the Naas native ran the full Indy NXT by Firestone season with Andretti Autosport.
