Daytona, FL (28 January 2025) Through a sunset, sunrise, and 24 hours later, the checkered flag waved over the cars that made it through one of the greatest endurance races in the world.

James Roe made his IMSA debut this weekend, driving in the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona for Pratt Miller Motorsport’s No. 73 LMP2 entry. The car and team of four drivers was having a solid, steady race heading into the eighth hour, when a racing incident caused chaos for many in the field.

On a post-yellow restart, the driver of the No. 40 GTP Wayne Taylor Cadillac lost control while exiting turn two on cold tires. The car bounced off the barrier and back into the racing line, where it was hit by multiple race vehicles. As cars came into the crash zone out of a blind corner, Roe’s teammate Chris Cummings was the second to make contact, in what became the biggest crash of the event.

“We were having a great race and had the car in the right place all evening,” said Roe. “We were on the lead lap with no penalties or damage until Chris got caught in that pile up. There was nothing he could have done about it, and just one of those unfortunate scenarios. But the team did an amazing job getting the car back out there to ensure we got Championship points.”

In an endurance race, co-drivers rotate driving duties, navigating different conditions throughout the day and nighttime hours. Roe drove 7.5 stints and approximately 5 hours. Even with the crash and extensive time needed for repairs, the No. 73 finished in tenth position in the LMP2 category and 41st overall out of 61 entries.

“My stints felt great,” explained Roe. “I had to double-stint tires every run, which was certainly challenging as we built pace throughout the race. We did what we needed to do to hold position and keep the car clean when the last hours came around.”

Roe’s next IMSA outing is the Twelve Hours of Sebring, which is the second endurance event of the 2025 season. The race takes place March 12-15, two weeks after INDY NXT’s first round in St. Petersburg, FL. Throughout February, Roe will continue training and prep for his double-duty racing season.

“Anytime you’re in a race car is beneficial and provides great experience,” said Roe when asked about the difference between his LMP2 car and INDY NXT open-wheel car. “For me, the biggest difference has to be braking and tire life. The two cars are in different worlds when it comes to how they react and feel in each area.

Daytona International Speedway is bustling with race teams and drivers from all over the globe, as the first race of the IMSA season is upon us.

The Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona is North America’s most prestigious sports car race. From sunrise to sunset and through the night, this 24-hour marathon race tests the limits of both driver and machine.

James Roe makes his IMSA debut this weekend, driving for the Oshkosh Corporation owned – Pratt Miller Motorsport’s LMP2 entry. The 26-year-old will compete in the No. 73 ORECA 07 alongside drivers Pietro Fittipaldi, Callum Illott and Chris Cumming. The 12-entry LMP2 class is seeing a boom in popularity with veteran teams and drivers participating.

And at the “Roar Before the 24” this past weekend, Roe and his Pratt Miller team found good pace, logging laps in six of the practice sessions.

“The Roar weekend was great,” said Roe. “This was my first time in the car and at Daytona Speedway. So, there were many new things to take in, from the car itself, to tire management, traffic management and fuel saving. All important things for the race. The team has been awesome, and my teammates are super helpful at getting me up to speed in a new program.”

The IMSA series features multi-class racing. That means there are FOUR different classes of cars on track at the same time. Part of the driver’s skill is navigating the varied speeds of the cars around you. In addition, for an endurance race like Daytona, each entry will have up to 4 drivers who share the seat throughout the 24 hours.

“Endurance racing has always appealed to me,” continued Roe. “And when the opportunity presented itself to not only compete in one of the world’s largest races, but also expand our racing program for our partners, it was a no brainer.”

The 63rd Rolex 24 at Daytona will have flag to flag coverage this weekend on Peacock. In addition, broadcast coverage of the race coverage will begin Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1:30 p.m. ET on NBC and move to USA Network from 2:30-6:30 p.m. The conclusion of the race is back on NBC from noon to 2 p.m.

“Looking forward to getting my first ever endurance race under my belt,” says Roe. “And fingers crossed my three teammates and I will be fighting for a win when hour 24 comes around.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Monday, September 16, 2024) James Roe and his No. 29 Topcon team brought a fast car to the Music City for the 2024 INDY NXT™ by Firestone Series finale – adding to another strong oval showing for Andretti Global.

Having shown great pace in a recent test at Nashville Superspeedway, the Irish driver took a measured approach to Saturday’s two practices which saw multiple cars meet the outside retaining wall of the 1.33 mile banked oval. Knowing he had a quick No. 29 Topcon machine under him, Roe was ready to battle for the pole in qualifying; however, the lingering remnants of Hurricane Francine had other plans. Ultimately, qualifying was rained out with starting positions for Sunday’s race set by entrant points.

Launching from the fifth row of the grid, Roe immediately began to pick his way through the field, executing a series of strategic passes over the first 22 laps of the race that took the No. 29 Topcon car from ninth to fourth. Roe spent the remaining laps of the 65-lap contest strategically hunting the car ahead with the race’s length falling just short of what he needed to secure a spot on the podium for the series finale.

“It was a great race for us,” said Roe. “Obviously, we were a little bummed about qualifying being canceled because we knew we had lots of pace. I think we needed a few more laps to get on the podium, but the No. 29 Topcon Dallara was fast, and that definitely showed as we went from P9 to P4. Once again, Andretti INDY NXT dominated. I’m excited to see what’s to come.”

The strong result on the oval bumped Roe and his No. 29 team – proudly representing partners Topcon, Ring Power Corporation, CES Power, Strong Roots, Trintech, Tourism Ireland, and The Ireland Funds – to sixth in the final INDY NXT by Firestone Championship standings.  As the season closes, Roe is already looking to the future, with plans to be announced in the coming months.

Nashville, Tenn. (Thursday, September 12, 2024) Following a weekend off, James Roe and his No. 29 Topcon Andretti Global team roll into the Volunteer State refreshed and ready for an oval battle in the Music City Grand Prix – the final contest of the 2024 INDY NXT™ by Firestone season.

Host of eight previous NTT INDYCAR SERIES events, Nashville Superspeedway promises high-intensity, wheel-to-wheel action across its banked, 1.33-mile D-shaped concrete oval. This year marks the first oval finale in a decade for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship and caps off a challenging oval stretch for the INDY NXT by Firestone series. Roe has showcased speed and poise across those ovals – including a pole, a track record, and a podium at Iowa Speedway – and looks to capitalize on that experience in Nashville.

“I’m excited for this weekend in Nashville,” noted the Irish racer. “We had a great test there a few weeks ago and we’re planning to carry those good results over to the race this weekend. I’m looking forward to finishing the season strong with the No. 29 Topcon crew.”

Roe and the No. 29 team – backed by partners Topcon, Ring Power Corporation, CES Power, Strong Roots, Trintech, Tourism Ireland, and The Ireland Funds – come to Nashville ready to bring home a points-paying finish in this weekend’s season finale.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Monday, September 3, 2024) Irish driver James Roe showcased his tenacity and racecraft at the historic Milwaukee Mile on Saturday afternoon where he and his No. 29 Topcon entry contributed to a dominant day for Andretti Global.

With just one practice at a track making its return to the schedule after a nearly ten year hiatus, Roe and his counterparts had to be quick studies of the Milwaukee Mile’s unique nuances. With an experienced pilot at the helm, the No. 29 Topcon team showed pace and poise in Saturday’s qualifying, securing a starting spot on the fourth row of the grid.

When the green flag dropped just a few hours later, Roe’s skills were immediately put to the test – surviving a chaotic start that shuffled the No. 29 back a few positions and then stealthily avoiding a spinning car ahead which brought out a caution. Following the restart, the Irish driver showed his speed and mettle as he methodically stalked and executed passes, fighting his way up four positions to secure a sixth place finish on the day.

“I think overall it was a good day,” said Roe reflecting on the race. “We dodged mayhem at the start and worked our way forward the rest of the race. I knew that we had a fast car out there and managed to get some huge points. We passed a lot of cars and Andretti flat-out dominated this weekend, so we’re happy.”

Coming off a strong result, Roe and his No. 29 team – proudly representing partners Topcon, Ring Power Corporation, CES Power, Strong Roots, Trintech, Tourism Ireland, and The Ireland Funds – return to action in two weeks for the INDY NXT by Firestone season finale at Nashville Superspeedway.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Thursday, August 29, 2024) Back in action for the third weekend in a row, James Roe and his No. 29 Topcon Andretti Global team motor back to the American Midwest and back to oval racing for the Milwaukee 100 – the penultimate contest of the 2024 INDY NXT™ by Firestone season.

The Milwaukee Mile, a storied track that has hosted series from all corners of the U.S. motorsports landscape, returns to the INDY NXT by Firestone schedule after a nearly 10 year hiatus. A one-mile oval that drives like a road course due to its relatively flat turn banking, The Mile’s configuration has remained essentially unchanged over its 120 year history. With a quick car at the two most recent ovals – including winning the pole in track-record speed at Iowa – Roe is ready to show his speed at this historic venue.

“Milwaukee is a new track for us all, which is always very exciting,” commented Roe. “I’m looking forward to getting there and figuring out how to get around this one-mile short oval. This is my first time going flat track oval racing, but the No. 29 Topcon Dallara is fast and we’ve been strong on ovals this year, so it should make for a good time.”

The No. 29 car livery will feature the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) prominently on the rear wing as it turns laps on the grounds of the Wisconsin State Fair Park. AEM, based in Milwaukee, is North America’s leading organization advancing construction and agriculture equipment manufacturers in the global marketplace – serving as a critical resource to industry leader members like Topcon.

After conquering the Milwaukee Mile, the Irish driver and his No. 29 Topcon team – representing partners Topcon, Ring Power Corporation, CES Power, Strong Roots, Trintech, Tourism Ireland, and The Ireland Funds – head to Nashville Superspeedway for the culmination of the 2024 INDY NXT by Firestone season.
